What is the Chamber of Commerce?
We are a local, membership driven organization comprised of businesses. Ww work to further the interests of local business. We identify as "the recognized voice of business, committed to economic prosperity in Sault Ste. Marie."
Some of our key activities include:
Advocating on behalf of our member businesses and agencies in conjunction with efforts undertaken by the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce;
Educating our members on issues that impact their business;
Conveying the benefits of doing business in Sault Ste. Marie;
Networking with other agencies and individuals that impact business locally and creating opportunities for our members to build stronger business relations;
Providing services that allow and encourage our member businesses to succeed and grow.
How do I find a Chamber-member business?
We have a number of ways to find a member business, right here on our website.
The Chamber’s “Find a Member
” feature on our website will allow you to search our members alphabetically by business name or by category. Each listing features a link to the members’ website and e-mail address whereever possible.
Our website also includes a pdf version
of our SSMCOC Business Directory.
This directory is includes two sections offering detailed contact information for local businesses including company name, address, phone, fax, contact persons, e-mail and web addresses. The first section is alphabetical, referencing Chamber members and member businesses only. The second section is cross-referenced by business category and includes all local businesses, both Chamber-member and non-member. A hard copy of this comprehensive publication can also be purchased from the Chamber of Commerce office.

Who can attend Chamber events?
Everyone is welcome to attend most Chamber events. For most of our events, Chamber-members and their employees enjoy special member rates.
How do I become a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce?
Membership with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is subject to approval by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. It requires the completion of a membership application to be submitted with payment of the pro-rated membership fees.
Those interested in joining the Chamber or for membership inquiries are welcome to stop by our office during business hours, Monday to Friday from 9AM to 5PM and our Membership & Business Development Leader would be pleased to discuss the membership benefits and provide a package of information.
Do I need to be a business owner to join the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce?
No, Those interested in joining the Chamber have the option of joining as an individual member. This is a great way to network and strengthen relationships with others in the community. Membership with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is subject to approval by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.

How much are the membership fees to join the Chamber?
Membership Fees are determined based on the type of membership and the fees are pro-rated depending on the time of year of joining. For instance to join under the general business category, membership fees are based on number of employees.
All new Chamber Memberships with the exception of Associate Members, Student Entrepreneurs and Retired Business Professionals are subject to a one-time administration fee of which may be waived if you have been a previous Chamber member within the past 5 years. Also, there is an additional Ontario Chamber of Commerce Affiliation fee applied to memberships. For specific rates on joining the Chamber please call the Chamber office and speak with the Membership & Business Development Leader.
Where are you located?
The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber office is located in the Sault's downtown core at 369 Queen Street East, Suite 1. The office building which houses our office is known as the McCarda Building and it is located on the south side of Queen Street East, between Elgin Street and Bruce Street / Ron Francis Way.
