Your Art Filled Weekend at Bondar and Bushplane:
The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District presents Art in the Park and Art in the Parking Lot

(August 17th and 18th, 2013: Sault Ste. Marie) The Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District proudly present their annual Art in the Park and Art in the Parking Lot events this weekend.  Art in the Parking Lot will take place at the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre on August 17th from 4:00p.m. to 10:00p.m. and Art in the Park will take place at the Roberta Pavilion on August 18th from 11:00a.m. to 5:00p.m.

"This is a great chance to come out to free events and enjoy the talent in our region" says Sandra Houston, Executive Director of the Arts Council of Sault Ste. Marie & District. "Not only will you have the opportunity to purchase some amazing artwork, but just for coming out you can enter your name into draws for some great prizes, including jewelry donated by Peoples Jewelers in the Cambrian Mall."

In addition to jewelry, prizes also include a piece of artwork donated by a local artist and a gift basket valued at $130. As well, a silent auction will be held for a gift certificate for a helicopter ride donated by Eagle Feather Aviation.

“This year, we also have a lot more activities geared towards children.  We will have face painters, yoga, clay making, wooden crafts, a bounce house,  and other arts-related activities for kids” says Christine Campana, Networking Facilitator for the Arts Council. "We hope people will bring their kids out to the events to see some artwork and try participating in arts projects as well!"

There will be children's activities at both events, but the majority of activities will be happening at the youth event Art in the Parking Lot from 4:00p.m. until 6:00p.m. With Art in the Parking Lot being geared towards youth and emerging artists, and Art in the Park towards established, there will be a large variety of art at both events.

“These two events are not just oriented towards visual artists; the Arts Council really strives to incorporate a wide range of talents,” says Carly Bumbacco, this year’s Summer Student Event Coordinator. “As well as artists and crafters including sculptors, weavers, quilters, photographers, and beaders, there will also be many talented musicians and chefs providing entertainment and food to visitors."

The Arts Council promises to have a large variety of foods ranging from chicken wraps, vegan whole food options, desserts and coffee, as well as many of musicians, including some of the winners of their Karaoke contest held in July.

"In my many years of running and volunteering with the Arts Council, I've participated in this event many times. It's always been a great opportunity for the artists who help to enrich our community so much," says Houston. "Although this is my last year officially running the event, I will continue to be a part of it and hope to see it continue to grow and provide exposure for our artists and an enjoyable weekend for everyone!"
