Mark Barsanti Sworn in as New President
of the SSM Chamber of Commerce
Sault Ste. Marie, ON – Mark Barsanti took his oath of office as President of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce on Monday afternoon before Mayor Debbie Amaroso in council chambers. Joining Barsanti was new Chamber First Vice-President, Monica Dale, Chamber of Commerce Treasurer, Ron Spadoni and Chamber of Commerce General Manager, Shelley Barich.
Barsanti officially began his term as Chamber President on January 1, 2014 and will serve in this capacity until June 30, 2015. He takes over from James Caicco who held the position from July 1, 2012 until December 31, 2013.
Caicco, who is the Broker of Record and owner of Century 21 Choice Realty Inc, will continue in an official capacity with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce as Immediate Past President and as a member of the organization’s Executive Committee.
A native of Sault Ste. Marie, Barsanti is a graduate of St. Mary’s College. He graduated Osgoode Hall Law School in 1990 and was called to the Bar in 1993, shortly afterward returning to the Sault to practice law. He started a career in business in 1999 as a Canadian Tire franchisee. In 2012, he took over ownership of the Sault Ste. Marie Canadian Tire retail store.
Barsanti maintains extensive community involvement. In addition to his involvement with the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, he is an Executive Member of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre, a member of the Sault Area Hospital Board of Directors and Chair of the Major Donor Committee for the Journey - a project of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie.
Barsanti notes that he assumes the role of Chamber President optimistic of the opportunities available for businesses in Sault Ste. Marie. “As a person who returned to the Sault after many years away, I was quickly impressed by the level of civic engagement among the business community. The positive momentum that our city has enjoyed over the last decade is even more inspirational. The Chamber’s roots are imbedded deeply in the notion of advocacy for business and that purpose or goal, when properly advanced, is a powerful tool for any community.”
He also adds that during his term, his goal for the organization is to not only create value for our members and the business community at large but to ensure that our members and the entire community develop a greater awareness of the positive ways in which the Chamber impacts our community. Business and the prosperity created by business cannot be overstated as a key pillar for a successful, engaging community, he notes.
Dale, who is assuming the role of First Vice President, is a Commercial Account Executive with Dawson & Keenan Insurance Ltd; Spadoni, who is serving his sixth year as the Chamber’s Treasurer is a partner at the local KPMG LLP.
The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce is the recognized voice of business and is committed to economic prosperity in Sault Ste. Marie. The Chamber represents the interests of 750 plus business and agencies and has been serving the needs of this community since 1889. In 2014, the Sault Ste.
