For Immediate Release
October 30th, 2015
Sault Ste. Marie – On Thursday, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce was proud to add the city of Sault Ste. Marie to its growing list of Canada’s Resource Cities.
“Sault Ste. Marie perfectly represents what we mean when we talk about a Resource City. It is a leader in the development and transformation of natural resources, and it also serves as the centre of a country-wide supply chain,” explained the Hon. Perrin Beatty, President and CEO of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. “At the centre of the city’s development is Tenaris, and we thank them for their partnership at this event,” he continued.
Through its partnership with the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Tenaris wants to raise awareness of the role of manufactured goods in connection with the oil and gas industry and how it enables development with other cities in the supply chain.

“Tenaris is deeply involved in the community of Sault Ste. Marie - it is a partnership that extends beyond its pipe-manufacturing mill with strategic investments and support of educational initiatives that generate opportunities,” said Guillermo Moreno, Vice President and Managing Director, Canada.
According to Monica Dale, President of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce, “the Sault is home to many businesses that operate in the natural resource and alternative energy generation sectors. The city also benefits from having direct access to road, rail and waterway transportation links as well as direct access to the U.S. via the International Bridge.

She added that “natural resource sector development is a symbolic attribute in the Sault and many of our key industry sectors continue to collectively foster economic growth and diversification for our community today. In addition, we are home to world-class cutting-edge research facilities that include Natural Resources Canada, the Great Lakes Forestry Centre and the Ontario Forest Research Institute.”
“When we consider that the steel pipes built here in Sault Ste. Marie use Québec steel and are then sold to oil and gas companies in Alberta, we start to get a glimpse of the interconnected nature of this business. This interconnectivity is a tool that helps build a more competitive Canada,” concluded Mr. Beatty.
