If so, then the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce has an exciting opportunity for a Membership and Business Development Manager to join our vibrant team.
 
Formed in 1889 we are the voice of business in Sault Ste. Marie. Our ongoing advocacy role includes addressing local government policies, programs and actions affecting member businesses. The local Chamber facilitates enhancement of the economic climate; identifies education and training opportunities; improves relationships with government, business agencies and labour organizations. We provide many opportunities for business people to network, get connected to business opportunities and invest in their business and community.
 
Reporting to the Executive Director, you will utilize your sales and relationship skills to serve as the primary business contact for members and prospective members of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce. The Membership and Business Development Manager is expected to maximize membership retention and acquisition strategy while maximizing revenue opportunities for promotional products and event sponsorships.
 
This person will consistently provide excellent customer service to current members and potential new members as well as represent their needs to the Chamber of Commerce team for translation to new or enhanced programs and services.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • To grow the existing membership by inducting new members.
  • To analyze and maintain Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce’s extensive member database with a view to understanding the membership’s profile, specific needs, those members with the potential for growth and also those members at risk.
  • To cultivate relationships with members, understand their needs, identify opportunities for growth and new business within/across sectors and represent members’ interests to the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce team.
  • Take a lead role in the execution of member contact plans with a view to driving membership and revenue growth.
  • Conduct sales presentations and attend networking events to promote the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.
  • Ensure that member issues are dealt with professionally, informing the Executive Director of any problems that may arise.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
  • Successful background in business development, sales, customer service and/or marketing.
  • Proven ability to cultivate sound business relationships, strategic alliances and close sales.
  • Strong experience in database management.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Outstanding presentation, writing, editing, proofreading and verbal skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and critically while working both individually and as an active participant in a small, cross-functional team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and duties with competing deadlines.
  • Be able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Schedule flexibility for attendance at events internally and externally.
  • Work is performed in a professional office environment.
Required experience:
  • Business Development / Customer Service / Sales experience: 3 years
