Sault Ste. Marie - The Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce (SSMCOC) is pleased to announce that it is now accepting nominations for its Outstanding Business Achievement Awards to be given out at its Awards Gala in February.

The deadline to submit a nomination is Friday, January 6th, 2017. Anyone wishing to submit a local Chamber-member business for nomination can visit www.ssmcoc.com for full details and to download a nomination form. The nomination can also be completed online at www.ssmcoc.com/membership/outstanding-business-awards

Paul Johnson, SSMCOC President says that “the Chamber is looking to recognize local businesses that have gone out of their way to be innovative, find new ways to engage their customers, and who have adapted unique and novel business practices that set them apart from their competition.”

The Chamber’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards recognize businesses that have made significant strides in overall growth and success, safety, diversification, employee relations, customer service and marketing. Additionally, the Chamber will recognize the successes and contributions made by several individual business people.

Awards categories include:
  • Employer of Choice Award
  • Customer Service Award - Business or Agency
  • Customer Service Award – Individual
  • Business of the Year Award - Micro Enterprise (1 to 4 employees)
  • Business of the Year Award - Small Business (5 to 99 employees)
  • Business of the Year Award - Medium to Large Business (100+ employees)
  • Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award (aged 18 to 39)
  • Safe Work, Sound Business Award
  • Diversity Award
  • Marketing Award - Micro Enterprise (1 to 4 employees)
  • Marketing Award - Small Business (5 to 99 employees)

SSMCOC CEO, Rory Ring notes that the award categories have been updated this year to better reflect the diversity of businesses that we have locally.

“For both the Business of the Year and the Marketing Awards, we have re-aligned our nominations to recognize businesses in different size classifications… micro-businesses, small business and medium-large businesses,” says Ring. “We felt that it was important to acknowledge that businesses in these different classifications have very different needs and very different access to resources, and as such they can have a very different outlook on what constitutes success and achievement.”

Recipients will be presented with their awards on Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at the Chamber’s Outstanding Business Achievement Awards Dinner & Gala.  With a move to The Machine Shop and a completely re-vamped format, the Chamber hopes to make this year’s Awards the biggest and most exciting event of the year for local business.
