Nomination Process
  • Nominator to complete the form below and email, fax or mail to the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce office.
  • Nominees will be contacted to confirm that they will allow their name or business to stand for nomination.
  • Nominees will receive and subsequently return a questionnaire package outlining how they or their business meet the award criteria.
  • Award recipients will be announced and presented with their awards in February 2017 at the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Business Achievement Awards Dinner and Gala.
 
Eligibility & Requirements
  • Self-nominations will be accepted and are encouraged.
  • Nominees must be Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce members in good standing
  • Nominees can be nominated in more than one category.
  • Nominees must have been in business for a minimum of three years (with the exception of the Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award).
  • Nominations should include an example of how the nominee or business has been successful in meeting the award criteria as outlined in the award description
  • Past recipients cannot be nominated in the award category for which they have previously won, but are eligible for nomination in other award categories.

Outstanding Business Achievement Awards and Categories
 
Employer of Choice Award
Presented to a business or organization that has good people and community practices; demonstrates good Human Resources or Management policies or practices; actively supports professional development of staff; has good employee relations and employee and training communications; demonstrates good health, safety and wellness practices and demonstrates broad community involvement.
 
Customer Service Award - Business or Agency
Presented to a business or agency that raises customer service to new standards of excellence.
 
Customer Service Award - Individual
Presented to an individual that raises customer service to new standards of excellence and is a role model for others in the customer service industry.
 
Business of the Year Award - Micro Enterprise
Recognizes a business, with one to four employees, which successfully demonstrates positive growth, a progressive attitude toward employee relations, a positive public image, a reputation for excellence in customer service and contributions to the community.
 
Business of the Year Award - Small Business
Recognizes a business, with five to ninety-nine employees, which successfully demonstrates positive growth, a progressive attitude toward employee relations, a positive public image, a reputation for excellence in customer service and contributions to the community.
 
Business of the Year Award - Medium to Large Business
Recognizes a business, with 100 or more employees, which successfully demonstrates positive growth, a progressive attitude toward employee relations, a positive public image, a reputation for excellence in customer service and contributions to the community.
 
Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Presented to a young entrepreneur (aged 18- 39) that demonstrates an innovative / creative approach to creating, marketing and promoting his / her business in addition to maintaining a positive public image and contributing to community activities.
 
Safe Work, Sound Business Award
Recognizes a business that uses a safe work management system, participates in workplace and / or community injury prevention programs and has exceptionally good injury frequency and injury severity performance.
 
Diversity Award
Recognizes a business or organization that embraces, celebrates and applies holistic inclusion and participation of a diverse people making the workplace a better environment in which to work, and the community a better place in which to live, work and raise a family.
 
Marketing Award - Micro Enterprise
Recognizes a business with one to four employees that demonstrates a superior and novel marketing strategy to attract new business and retain repeat business through the creative use of limited resources.
 
Marketing Award - Small Business
Recognizes a business with five to ninety-nine employees that demonstrates a superior and novel marketing strategy to attract new business and retain repeat business through the creative use of limited resources.
 
Marketing Award - Medium to Large Business
Recognizes a business with 100 or more employees that demonstrates a superior and novel marketing strategy to attract new business and retain repeat business through the creative use of limited resources.
 
Skipper Manzzutti Award for Business Achievement
Named after one of the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce's dedicated past presidents, Captain Feliciano "Skipper" Manzzutti, this award  recognizes an individual who has demonstrated outstanding business achievement within the past year, or number of years. Like the award's name-sake, the recipient of this award has set a high standard for exemplary entrepreneurial and community minded achievement.
 
Paul Dalseg Community Achievement Award
The Paul Dalseg Award recognizes a businessperson in Sault Ste. Marie who has demonstrated exemplary interest in the community, and in so doing, has made a major, outstanding and unique achievement or contribution to the life of the community.  It is intended to recognize the leadership and community-mindedness of businessmen and women.
