Windsor, ON – The Windsor-Essex Regional, Hamilton, and Sault Ste. Marie Chambers of Commerce are participating in the All-Party Parliamentary Steel Caucus in Ottawa on Wednesday, May 31 from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. in advance of meetings between Canada and the U.S. on steel.
The Chambers will talk about the steel industry, local communities and their importance to Ontario's economy, and trade relationships between Canada and the U.S. in respect to steel. Also to be raised will be the issues of China’s steel dumping and displacing jobs from Ontario’s middle class.
Also in attendance will be representatives from the Canadian Steel Producers Association and the United Steel Workers.
The three Chambers also appeared before the House of Commons' Standing Committee on International Trade in Ottawa on March 21, 2017 to give testimony of the Canadian Steel Industry's ability to compete internationally in the context of some countries not playing by the rules.
Previously the three Chambers secured support for a National Steel Strategy at the Canadian Chamber of Commerce AGM in September 2016 and in August 2016 teamed up to write a letter to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, requesting that the Government of Canada address the issue of China dumping steel into Canada.
